Adapting Conflict Responses and Prevention to New Realities
For more than 75 years, UN peace operations have been remarkable expressions of multilateralism and international solidarity in action. At their best, they have protected civilians, advanced political solutions and assisted war-torn societies in rebuilding a stable future. Conditions, however, are changing rapidly. Conflict dynamics are becoming more complex. Global power relations are shifting. The need for expanding and updating the toolbox of the Security Council is clear, as also pointed out by the Secretary-General in his New Agenda for Peace.
As a member of the Security Council, Denmark will work to strengthen peace operations, partnerships and transitions. We will support African Union and subregional peace support operations. And we will strive to ensure that the Council meets the present challenges to peace and security on the ground in a manner that prioritizes prevention and addresses the underlying causes of conflict.
