Thematic priority

Implementing the Women Peace and Security agenda

It has been almost 25 years since the Security Council recognized women’s rights as integral to achieving lasting peace. Since then, Women, Peace and Security has become a key component in the work of the Security Council.

A robust normative framework has been formulated and progress has been achieved on the ground. Much, however, remains to be done to secure the full, equal, meaningful – and safe - participation of women in peace and security.

As a member of the Security Council, Denmark will work to close the persistent gap between rhetoric and reality. Working closely with fellow member states and other stakeholders, we will seek to translate the Women, Peace and Security principles into Security Council practice.
